Precisely by virtue of the heavy defeat suffered by the Gigliati against the Azzurri at the Franchi – a dry 3-0 – offensive chants against the city of Naples and the Neapolitan people were raised in the stands. The Viola fans chanted first “We are not Neapolitans”and then continues with the discriminatory chorus “Vesuvius wash them with fire”. A decidedly out of place episode, considering that the Tuscan team was not facing the Neapolitans.
