The decline continues. Emmanuel Macron’s popularity rating has fallen for the third time in a row to stand at 21%, according to the Ipsos political barometer for La Tribune Sundaypublished Saturday January 11. For his part, François Bayrou enters the head of government with 20% favorable opinions, far from Bruno Retailleau (35%) and Gérald Darmanin (33%) who clearly stand out.
Emmanuel Macron’s popularity rating is approaching the lowest level measured for the head of state, which reached 20% in December 2018 at the time of the yellow vest crisis. With the exception of supporters of the center, 62% of whom have a good perception of Emmanuel Macron’s actions, supporters of other political forces are all predominantly negative, including those of the LR and the UDI.
The new Prime Minister François Bayrou displays, for his part, the lowest level of favorable opinions measured for a Prime Minister of Emmanuel Macron (20%). In comparison, when Michel Barnier was appointed to Matignon in September 2024, his favorable opinion rate was 34%.
Among the different members of the government, two are clearly cited more by the French as being among the best ministers: Bruno Retailleau (35%) and Gérald Darmanin (33%), far ahead of Rachida Dati, Manuel Valls (18% each) and Sébastien Lecornu (14%).
Survey conducted by Ipsos-CESI Engineering School for La Tribune from January 8 to 9, 2025 among 1,000 people, constituting a national sample representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
