America’s aerial view at the moment looks like a silhouette of hell and heaven’s conjunction. While LA burns with the raging wildfires, the other side of the nation, Atlanta, is pretty much getting covered in frost. And amid all this, Adam Silver made the only decision that looked possible for him. After game cancellations in LA, it was time for the Hawks vs Rockets to bite the dust or snow in this case.
The verdict is in. Stuck between two extreme situations 2175 miles apart, Silver made the decision with the best interests of the league and the people in mind. ESPN’s Shams Charania has confirmed with his social media post that the Rockets won’t be playing the Hawks on Saturday. “NBA has postponed Rockets-Hawks in Atlanta today due to severe weather and hazardous icy conditions,” the insider stated.
Phew! That’s been another tough call for Silver to make this week. First, it was the Lakers vs. Hornets game on Thursday that got postponed because of the fire situation, followed by the Clippers vs. Hornets and Lakers vs. Spurs games, as it didn’t improve but rather worsened. Now, this one marks the fourth game canceled this week, and NBA fans are definitely not happy about it.

Adam Silver faces public backlash over Hawks vs Rockets postponement decision
“Oh we getting soft in the NBA now. Over some snow?” one fan asked. The week couldn’t get any worse, especially if you’re an NBA fan. Missing four major games is already frustrating for many, which made the fan question whether the league has become so weak that it has to continuously postpone games back-to-back.

“WTF? I got Trae, Jalen Green, Hunter, Harden, and Miles Bridges in my fantasy team… ALL GAMES SUSPENDED TODAY ????,” someone angrily commented on Charania’s post. They were clearly frustrated, as most of the players in their fantasy lineup had their games postponed this week. That means they wouldn’t be able to rack up too many points.
Meanwhile, another fan offered a suggestion to Adam Silver, “Shut the whole league down then????????.” There were many who shared the same sentiment. With league ratings dropping significantly this season, the commissioner and his officials likely wouldn’t have made the decision if it were up to them. However, with natural disasters making things worse, Silver and Co. felt it was the right course of action.
Comparing Silver’s decision to that of the NFL, a fan wrote, “NFL would’ve kept the show as scheduled.” The NFL was equally affected by the LA fire. So, they recently announced that they would move the playoff game between the Vikings and Rams to Arizona ensuring that the game is neither postponed nor impacted by the fire.

“They really suspending games for anything now huh,” read one of the comments. Well, Adam Silver wouldn’t be making random calls. These decisions are quite drastic, given the losses they’re facing for now. However, with the unpredictable weather conditions and fan safety in mind, the league felt it wasn’t wise to take the risk. Moreover, shifting the games on such short notice probably wasn’t feasible either.
