It remains to be seen if former lawyer of “El Chapo” Guzmán will be able to represent the sisters Mireddys and Ayeicha González

It is still unknown if the graduate and singer of regional Mexican music, Mariel Colón Mirówho represented the convicted Mexican drug trafficker and former leader of the Sinaloa cartel, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loeramay represent Mireddys González y Ayeicha Gonzálezwife and sister-in-law of the artist Daddy Yankee (Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez), respectively, in the corporate lawsuit.

Colón Miró requested to participate in the cases of the González sisters through pro hac viceor what is known as a “courtesy application for admission,” since she is only licensed to act as an attorney in the state of New York and not in Puerto Rico. Although the superior judge Anthony Cuevas Ramos, of the Court of San Juanaccepted, in an order issued this Friday, the resignation of the original legal team of the González sisters (Pilar Pérez Rojas, Hipólito Torres Rivera and David Carrión Baralt) and welcomed the entry of Roberto Alonso Santiago Rúa as new lawyer, did not comment on Colón Miró’s request.

The Office of Court Administration (OAT) explained to The New Day that the requests pro hac vice are attended to by Supreme Court of Puerto Ricoa judicial forum that, at the moment, has not issued a decision.

If the authorization is issued, Colón Miró will be able to apply as a lawyer in Puerto Rico only in the cases corresponding to this lawsuit and, possibly, in the couple’s divorce lawsuit that takes place in the Carolina Courtand he must do it with the help of Santiago Rúa, who is licensed to be a lawyer on the island.

On the other hand, Cuevas Ramos indicated, in a second order issued this Friday, that the hearing scheduled for January 14 will be in person and that, if any of the parties cannot appear, then they will have to propose an alternative date. for the hearing to take place. However, he warned that he only has two dates available.

“Due to the complex nature of the issues pending resolution, it is necessary for the hearing to be in person. We will most likely have to discuss in camera with the parties’ lawyers, so for better control and management of the debate, the physical presence of the lawyers is essential,” said the judge.

If there is a conflict in the calendar of any of the lawyers, Cuevas Ramos mentioned that “they must present (a) new date for the review. We warn that we only have available the date of January 24, 2025, 2:00 pm and February 10, 2025 onwards” in room 904 of the San Juan Court.

This order from the judge arose after Carlos Diaz Olivoone of the artist’s lawyers along with Anabelle Torres Colberg y Heileene Colberg Birrielrequested that the hearing be held virtually because it would be outside the island.

The lawyer also joined that request. Jean Paul Vissepó Garrigalegal representative of the corporations El Cartel Records, Inc. and Los Cangris, Inc., who presented a separate motion for the same purposes.

However, the judge did not accept the two motions and reaffirmed that the hearing will be in person. The hearing was scheduled after the González sisters’ previous defense filed a motion accusing the artist of “reckless harassment.”

The lawsuits over access to corporations began weeks after the artist revealed that he was divorcing his wife and after his lawyers revealed an alleged failed transfer of $100 million from the corporate accounts of both companies to the personal accounts of the González sisters. .

Following this complaint, the court held an in-person hearing on December 19, 2024 where an agreement was reached, which includes that the artist will assume the presidency of the two corporations.

Likewise, it was agreed that $75 million, which are in the accounts of both entities, will remain untouchable for a period of 30 days “in which the new control can have access to all the information and once it has all knowledge regarding matters related to corporate finance, further understandings can be reached.”

However, on December 26, after the first in-person meeting was held, the artist’s defense accused the González sisters of not attending the meeting in person and of presenting obstacles to not comply with what was ordered by the court.

Since that moment, the parties have been engaged in a legal struggle that even required the judge to issue arrest warrants. These were later voided when the defendant reported that it had allegedly handed over digital access to the corporations and all related documents.

However, the artist’s defense insists that there are still documents to be delivered, which prevents the artist from being able to correctly assume the direction of his corporations.

In fact, the hearing scheduled for January 14 arises as a result of the recent controversies in the case. On Thursday, Yankee’s legal representation filed a motion requesting a “definitive stop to the misrepresentations, to the strategies of victimization (of the González sisters) and using terms such as “feeling harassed” only to distract the Court, to try to harm the plaintiff publicly, to fail to comply with what was ordered without consequences.”
