Tesla formalizes the restyled Model Y (2025): here are all the improvements

At the time of writing this article, the Tesla Model Y is only available on the Chinese site. It has not yet appeared on European sites. The restyled version was particularly awaited by fans of the brand. It must be said that the Model Y launched in 2020 was aging and starting to lose market share, particularly in Europe. Rumors and leaks have been numerous around the model codenamed Juniper, with many customers waiting for the renewal to purchase it.

Tesla indicates that the updated Model Y offers numerous improvements: greater autonomy, a new design, a better quality interior and better acoustic comfort on board.

What Tesla changed on the 2025 Model Y

The first element that immediately strikes you is the new light signature of the model. At the front, Tesla has integrated a full-length light strip reminiscent of the Cybertruck, or the Xpeng brand models will probably say the most teasingly.

The rear does not include a simple strip, but a “diffuse reflection light”, wider than that present on the restyled version of the Model 3. The choice of body colors changes slightly, but remains limited to white, gray , blue, red and a new dark gray replacing black. The colors available for vehicles produced in Berlin may, however, differ from those available in China.

Tesla indicates that it has reworked the aerodynamics of its Model Y to: “ maximize efficiency and use every kilowatt hour of electricity more efficiently. » Tesla vehicles have long been the best in terms of efficiency, but competitors ended up catching up with the American manufacturer on this point. The updated version is 4 cm longer than the first Model Y.

Acoustic comfort is also a point reworked by Tesla during this restyling. The suspensions, wheels and tires have also been improved for a smoother, more comfortable and, above all, quieter ride. A development from which the restyled Model 3 had also benefited. Tesla also indicates that gigacasting the rear of the vehicle in 1 piece instead of 70 improves noise reduction when driving.

The interior is inspired by the Model 3 renewed in 2023 by integrating a light strip and similar materials. We also have to say goodbye to commodos with this updated version of the Model Y. The 8-inch touch screen at the rear is present. Only the 5-seater version is available to order. And, contrary to photos appearing on social networks, the Model Y does not have the rectangular steering wheel of the Cybertruck.

Two versions available when orders are opened

As usual, Tesla is starting marketing with two engines: a propulsion version and a long-range version. You have to wait before finding the performance versions on sale, then possibly a propulsion version with the large battery.

Options available:

• Body color: free in dark gray, extra for the 4 other colors
• Rims: 18 or 19 inches (for propulsion), 19 or 20 inches (for Long Autonomy)
• Interior: black (included) or white (extra)
• The different levels of driving assistance

It remains to be seen whether Tesla will formalize these announcements for the European market today with manufacturing in the Berlin factory. The timetable could very well be out of sync with China. The technical specifications could change between the Chinese version and the European version: autonomy, battery type, engine power and above all price, which will be at least 30% higher than those practiced in China. Expect the price of the rear-wheel drive version to be around €45,400.
