The husband of a famous Irish actress has been hotly tipped to play the new James Bond.
Daniel Craig departed the role following No Time to Die in 2021, with several names being thrown around as to who will be the next spy to don 007’s suits and gadgets — from Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Tom Hardy.
While nothing has been confirmed, it’s always fun to speculate who may just be the next Bond, James Bond, with The White Lotus’ Theo James coming out as a massive favourite after he was a rank outsider.
Theo, whose wife is Irish actress Ruth Kearney, joined the ranks of becoming the next Bond in November as an outsider, with Ladbrokes putting his odds at 25/1. However, those odds have been reduced drastically; with Theo becoming the frontrunner with the odds of him becoming 007 now standing at 2/1.
‘There’s a new Bond front-runner and his name just happens to be James,’ a Ladbrokes spokesperson told EVOKE. ‘Like preparing a good vodka martini, Theo James has shaken up the conversation with his move to the top of the betting to replace Daniel Craig.’
-Theo’s wife Ruth Kearney was born in London to Irish parents, but moved back to Dublin when she was five-years-old. She grew up in Monkstown and attended St. Andrew’s College in Booterstown, before later graduating with an honours degree in Drama and Classics from Trinity College. She then went on to the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
She starred in shows such as Jess Parker in sci-fi series Primeval, Katharina in Tyrant on FX, and as Daisy Locke in The Following.
She and Theo met in 2009, but are both notoriously private — having made their red carpet debuts in 2012. It’s not sure when Theo popped the question, but they tied the knot in 2018, and share two children together.
Just behind Theo in the odds are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who was hotly tipped for a long time to replace Daniel, with his current odds being 5/1, while Paul Mescal becoming the next Irish Bond after Pierce Brosnan cannot also be ruled out — with his odds being around 6/1.
