This “Jeopardy!” player thankfully didn’t draw a blank space again when a Taylor Swift clue came on the board.
Contestant Drew Goins correctly answered a Swift-related query in an episode that aired Monday night, just minutes after explaining his embarrassment over previously botching a question about the world’s most famous entertainer.
The show is currently airing its “Second Chance,” competition, allowing players who didn’t win in their initial “Jeopardy!” appearance to have another opportunity to qualify for the franchise’s “Tournament of Champions.”
And during Monday night’s player introduction segment, Goins recalled how he missed a Swift-related question on his previous “Jeopardy!” appearance, much to the chagrin of his Swiftie brother who had prepped him on the topic.
His brother was in the studio audience for the show that aired on Monday and Goins, who lives in Hawaii and works for The Washington Post, pointed him out.
Goins had control of the board for the final answer of the first round, in the category of “Albums,” when this answer popped on to the screen: “In 2014 Taylor Swift gave us this album named for a different year.”
The audience erupted in laughter mid-clue, knowing Goins’ wildest dreams were about to come true, with a chance to shake off previous embarrassment and repair his reputation.
Drew’s version didn’t disappoint, buzzing in first and joyously yelling out the correct question: “What is ‘1989’?!”
The crowd went wild and host Ken Jennings matched Goins’ style of enthusiasm, declaring an end to any bad blood between the contestant and Swifties.
“Redemption for Drew!” Jennings said to Goins, who went on to win the game and stay alive in the tournament.
