Charlie Dalin, the leader, and Yoann Richomme, his runner-up, crossed the doldrums during the night from Monday to Tuesday. The skipper Macif Santé Prévoyance is once again more than a hundred miles ahead (126.4). However, the two men are still in close proximity.
This final sprint promises to be exciting until the end. And not content with already being certain of shattering the record for this Vendée Globe, held by Armel le Cléac'h on Banque Populaire since 2017 with a crossing completed in 74 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes and 46 minutes, Charlie Dalin and Yoann Richomme, expected in a week (January 14 or 15) at the finish line in Les Sables d'Olonne, should also bring down another mark: that of smallest gap between the winner and the second (2h31 between Yannick Bestaven and… Dalin in 2021, during the last edition). This Tuesday, the gap remains as close as ever while the two navigators are still in a tight spot even though they left the dreaded doldrums in their rearview mirror during the night. The skipper Macif Santé Prévoyance has regained his lead a little, with again more than a hundred miles ahead (126.36) over his runner-up.
The equivalent of two hundred kilometers between the two boats…
But, concretely, this still does not allow him to be able to claim victory. Only two hundred kilometers separate the two rivals, who should therefore fight to the end for victory if the scenario remains the same. Franck Cammas, invited to comment this Tuesday in L'Equipe, the “match race” could continue until the finish. “Dalin will want to dig as much as possible before the downwind winds near the Canaries or Madeira. He will slow down and behind, Richomme will have nothing to lose, even if it means pushing Dalin into error, forcing him to align himself with its speed and it can be expensive.”
