UNITED STATES – Trees, houses and restaurants ravaged by a blaze. Since Tuesday, January 7, the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles, populated by Hollywood celebrities, has been in the grip of a violent forest fire. While panicked residents had to flee the devastating fire on foot, more than 250 firefighters continued to fight against the flames this Wednesday.
As you can see in our video abovethe fire caused an impressive cloud of smoke, visible from the entire megacity. Strong gusts of hot winds blowing in the region accelerated the spread of the flames, making the task of firefighters particularly difficult. They also had to use bulldozers to clear dozens of abandoned vehicles from the road – including expensive BMW, Tesla and Mercedes models – leaving crushed carcasses with blaring alarms on the side of the road.
Despite the chaotic evacuation of around 30,000 people, no deaths or injuries were reported, said Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley. However, the authorities identify “many structures already destroyed”explained California Governor Gavin Newsom during a press briefing Tuesday evening, and many events planned in the city were canceled, including a premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s new film, « Unstoppable ».
