the essential
The unions have listed numerous malfunctions in these low-cost trains but also their poor condition. SNCF responded to the press release.
“A low-cost model running out of steam”. The CGT, Unsa and SUD-Rail denounced the malfunctions of the TGV Ouigo, the SNCF's low-cost offer, in a press release. “Over the last three months, the Ouigo TGVs have accumulated more incidents, reductions and cancellations of trains than over the last two years, on all axes combined”, it is notably presented.
In this text, the trains are described as “wrecks” suffering from “equipment failures, delays, cockroaches and bedbugs”, as well as toilets that are too often blocked and doors that regularly break down. At issue according to the unions: the deterioration of the trains linked to “aging” and “overexploitation”. A state which could even become a safety problem according to a separate press release from the CGT which took as an example the 765 train whose axles are “in poor condition”.
Threat of strike
Correct repair of the rolling stock is requested by the unions, as well as the removal of the trains at the end of the day in the event of certain material malfunctions or even an exceptional bonus for staff working in the Ouigo. A rally was announced this Friday in front of the Gare de Lyon in Paris and the unions are threatening to strike.
Response from SNCF
The management of SNCF Voyageurs assured our colleagues at BFMTV that “the safety of travelers and agents is an absolute priority at Ouigo as for all SNCF Voyageurs trains. No risk has ever been or is taken in this regard. matter”. And the answer in terms of the renovation of the fleet is clear: “The Ouigo trains are benefiting from a major renewal (the most important since its launch in 2013), which is starting to be deployed at the start of the year, with a fleet both larger and more modern. According to our colleagues, Ouigo TGVs will represent 25% of high-speed traffic in France by 2027 and will approach 30% within ten years.
