Two Stars of David were discovered on the front door and in the lobby of a building. A third was discovered at another address. An investigation was opened for “degradation or deterioration of the property of others committed because of race, ethnicity, nation or religion”.
Stars of David were tagged on buildings in Saint-Mandé and Vincennes (Val-de-Marne), near the Hypercacher which was attacked in 2015 after the attack on Charlie Hebdo, where four people of Jewish faith had been killed on January 9 of that same year. An investigation has been opened, a police source and the Créteil prosecutor's office said on Monday, requested by AFP.
Late Sunday afternoon in Vincennes, a resident discovered two Stars of David on the front door of a building and in its hall, and a third star was discovered at another address, the public prosecutor said.
According to the same source, an investigation was opened to “degradation or deterioration of the property of another committed because of race, ethnicity, nation or religion”.
“It’s despicable”
Other tags representing a Star of David drawn with black paint were discovered Monday morning on a “ten buildings” of Vincennes and Saint-Mandé, a police source told AFP. A registration “Jewish” was also found on another building in Saint-Mandé, added this source.
“It inspires disgust in me, I find it absurd to tag things like that, especially during these times when we will soon commemorate the tenth anniversary of Charlie Hebdo and Hypercacher”deplores Jonathan Msika, 40, to AFP.
“It’s despicable”is indignant Florence Ménard, 60 years old and resident of one of the tagged buildings, who recalls being “very close to the Hypercacher and 50 meters from the synagogue”.
In the neighboring town of Fontenay-sous-Bois, four people were arrested on Sunday evening for entering a building and drawing Stars of David with a red marker, according to another police source. “The investigations must in particular determine whether the cases are linked”notes the Créteil public prosecutor's office.
