10 years ago, twelve people were killed in a terrorist attack committed by the Kouachi brothers. In Carcassonne, like everywhere in France, citizens united in the name of freedom.
On January 7, 2015, the Kouachi brothers burst into the offices of Charlie Hebdo to cause death. Cabu, Charb, Honoré, Tignous and Wolinski, five cartoonists for the newspaper, Elsa Cayat, psychoanalyst and columnist, Bernard Maris, economist, Mustapha Ourrad, proofreader, Michel Renaud, invited to attend the editorial conference, Franck Brinsolaro, police officer in charge of Charb security, Frédéric Boisseau, who worked for the company in charge of maintaining the building and Ahmed Merabet, peace guard, who tried to prevent the escape terrorists, are cowardly murdered. Eleven other people are injured.
All over France, there was astonishment, and spontaneously, thousands of people decided to gather for a silent tribute to the victims of this attack. In Carcassonne, 600 people gathered in front of the Jacobins gate, brandishing Je suis Charlie signs.

A few days later, on January 11, 8,000 people gathered in front of the Jacobins portal for the silent demonstration organized at the national level. But as the procession advanced towards the Prado de la Cité, thousands of others joined them. At the last count, there were 20,000 people in the streets of Carcassonne. A gathering on a scale never seen in the capital of Aude since the Liberation, of citizens united under the banner of freedom and union.
