Aryna Sabalenka started the 2025 season with a title as she won the women’s singles title at the Brisbane International. The Belarusian put in a fine performance to beat qualifier Polina Kudermetova, who put up a strong fight in the final.
Sabalenka reached her second successive final at the WTA 500 event following straight-set wins over Renata Zarazua, 15th seed Yulia Putintseva, Marie Bouzkova and eighth seed Mirra Andreeva. Here, she was up against 21-year-old Polina Kudermetova, who previously beat third seed Daria Kasatkina and 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova.
Aryna Sabalenka found herself a set down in the final after Kudermetova took the opening set 6-4. However, the 26-year-old bounced back by taking the second set 6-3 thanks to two service breaks. The Belarusian took the match to a decider and cruised to a 5-1 lead in the final set. Kudermetova showed some resistance by pulling one break but Sabalenka was not to be denied, and she eventually registered a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win to clinch her 18th WTA singles title.
The total prize pool at the Brisbane International is $1,520,600, and the World No. 1’s exploits will fetch her a prize money of $192,475 while Kudermetova will receive $120,375. Mirra Andreeva and Anhelina Kalinina were both eliminated in the semifinals, and will each pocket $69,650.
Ons Jabeur, Marie Bouzkova and the other two players who lost in the quarterfinals, will each fetch $35,000. The women who lost in the second round of the Brisbane International will each earn $17,750 while those who were out in the first round of the tournament will fetch $12,300 each.
Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider won the women’s doubles title at Brisbane International 2025
The unseeded pair of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider won the women’s doubles title at the Brisbane International. The Russian duo beat Priscilla Hon and Anna Kalinskaya 7-6(6), 7-5 in the final. Interestingly, they did not beat a single seeded pair en route to their triumph.
Andreeva and Shnaider will receive a prize money of $75,820 for their exploits while Kalinskaya and Hon will pocket $48,590 for their runner-up finish. Teams who lost in the semifinals of the WTA 500 event will each fetch $26,830 while those who were ousted in the quarterfinals will each receive $14,000.
The pairs who were out in the opening round will each pocket a prize money of $9,530.
