Georges-Emmanuel Germany, former president of Martinique, appointed Ambassador of Benin in charge of the Afro-descendant diaspora for the Antilles

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Benin appointed former President Georges-Emmanuel Germany, Ambassador in charge of the Afro-descendant diaspora for the Antilles. The Martinican already has the title of dignitary and prince of the kingdom of Allada. Its mission now extends to the French-speaking, English-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, Spanish-speaking and Dutch-speaking Antilles.

The former president of the Fort-de- bar, Georges Emmanuel Germany, committed to the recognition of Afro-West Indian descendants, was appointed on December 18 by the Council of Ministers of Benin, Ambassador in charge of the diaspora for the Antilles.

Benin was the first African country to launch this distinction, by adopting a law allowing recipients to benefit from Beninese nationality. This law is part of a cultural and memorial policy for recognition of the suffering caused by the slave trade.

During his visit to in December 2023, the Beninese President placed emphasis on strengthening links and exchanges between Martinique and his country, to “repair history”.

Georges-Emmanuel Germany says that this idea germinated during a meeting with the champion of negritude, Aimé Césaire in the year 2000. The realization continued in 2016, when the person concerned was elevated to the rank of prince of the Kingdom of Allada.

This challenge constitutes “a big responsibility” recognizes the Martinican, who will have to take his pilgrim's staff to raise awareness in the French-speaking, English-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, Spanish-speaking or Dutch-speaking West Indian territories invested in this cause.
