On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the 2015 attacks (Charlie Hebdo, Hyper Cacher, Thalys and November 13), Agnès Pizzini and Claire Denavarre, the directors of the documentary, tell in a 90-minute what became of the survivors, witnesses, politicians, members of the police and relief, in a new format.

Retracing chronologically the unfolding of the attacks, the directors took the challenge of putting all these people around a table and filming their meetings, their discussions, their confidences. “We didn’t even know if this device was going to work,” confides Claire Denavarre during a press briefing. Finally, the witnesses got involved and from these round tables emerged sweet and sincere exchanges, making this film unique in its kind. A moving documentary, imbued with humanity, fraternity and resilience not to be missed.

The “carnage” of Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher

The documentary opens with the “carnage” of Charlie Hebdowith testimonies from Riss, the newspaper's publishing director, the former President of the Republic François Hollande, François Molins, former public prosecutor at the High Court and even the mayor of Paris , Anne Hidalgo. The documentary then traces the death of Clarissa Jean-Philippe, the municipal police officer in Montrouge killed on the morning of January 8, 2015 by the terrorist Amedy Coulibaly. The next day, the latter took the clients and staff of the Hyper Cacher hostage and killed four people.

In the sequence devoted to Hyper Cacher, a testimony emerges: that of Noémie, a nurse who left to do some shopping before Shabbat and who was taken hostage by Amedy Coulibaly for several hours. Always sincere, she recounts the horror of the attack and these “pools of blood”, then her trauma which is still present ten years later.

And speaking in a documentary and to the press when you suffer from trauma like this is not easy: “For several days, I have been asked by the media to testify. And it's never easy. My husband told me: “OK, go ahead, but I know I won't be able to talk to you for a week because you'll be unpleasant, you won't sleep, you'll have nightmares…” Because yes , that’s the reality,” says Noémie.

Survivors, a security agent, a front-line rescuer…

After Hyper Cacher, the film continues on the thwarted Thalys attack, with the testimony of the hero Mark Moogalian, a Franco-American aged 51 at the time of the events, seriously injured and who temporarily disarmed the terrorist Ayoub el-Khazzani . Then, on November 13. For this sequence of the documentary, the directors mobilized a large number of witnesses: survivors of the Bataclan, people injured on restaurant terraces in the 10e et 11e districts of Paris, front-line caregivers, the head of security at the Bataclan… A moving sequence, where everyone gives their testimony and looks back on the legacy of these events.

Exchange to move forward

During this last round table, Gaëlle, seriously injured in the face during the attack on the Bataclan, and Claude-Emmanuel, seriously injured during the shootings targeting the terraces of the restaurants of the 10e et 11e districts, were able to testify about their lives today, ten years later. “These exchanges allowed me to better understand certain things and allowed me to move forward,” explains Gaëlle during the same press briefing. “I'm a big fan of talking circles and what happened in this documentary was very powerful. We were surprised ourselves! I was even more impressed by the richness of the exchanges,” says Claude-Emmanuel.
