Young Money
Canal+, official broadcaster of the Champions League in France, was slapped on the wrist by the DGCCRF, according to RMC. The reason? Having broadcast the matches of the Young Boys of Bern, whose players proudly wear the sponsor “ Plus 500 », a trading company not really in line with French legislation, because the promotion of financial services deemed risky is nothing.
Call to order
The Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention declared: “ SA Canal+ Group has on several occasions broadcast advertising readable on the jerseys of Young Boys players. These advertisements, for the sponsor 'Plus 500', are prohibited by the consumer code. The DGCCRF therefore ordered Canal+ to cease these practices. »
This is not the first time that “ Plus 500 » is acting up. In 2023, Bein Sports, then broadcaster of the Champions League, preferred to play the cautious card by skipping Young Boys matches to avoid any problems. Same story for Atalanta Bergamo, which shares the same sponsor and whose Serie A matches had been put on the shelf on the French side.
Ligue 1 didn't even need that to become invisible.
