A serious industrial fire is raging at Punch Metals, a metalworking company in Nobelstraat in Hamont. The fire brigade is on site. The police have closed the surrounding streets. The plume of smoke can be seen from far away. Some bangs could also be heard in the distance.
The black smoke is blowing towards Budel, but people in the area can also be affected by it. The police ask to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation systems.
Smoke is always harmful, even if it is not poisonous. Local residents are also asked to stay indoors. The area is closed off, so there is no point in looking at the fire. Avoid that environment so that the fire brigade can do its work.
Big water transport
The fire brigade has called in the so-called Grootwatertransport to combat the sea of flames. This means that large quantities of firefighting water are supplied by tankers. The water comes from water extraction sites (such as a canal, for example) in the area.
