In a dangerous area closed to the public, around thirty caravans have been installed since mid-December. The land is located in the town of Pierre-Bénite-Oullins. Caught between the highway and a seveso-classified chemical factory. A little further on, on private land soon to be built, there is another camp. There are around fifty caravans here.
A situation that Jérôme Moroge, the mayor of the town, can no longer stand. He wrote to the Minister of the Interior. “For the State to take matters into its own hands, he explains. For us, it's blocking extremely important work for our community which will be weeks, months late, he gets annoyed.“. The councilor also explains the additional costs linked to waste collection. He fears that the situation will continue.
However, the law requires departments to provide reception areas for Travelers. “Official grounds are saturated. It's full, and what's more, there are some that close in winter” explains Raymond Colomba, one of the oldest residents of the community.
In the area, certain areas are actually occupied, others, reserved for spring and summer pilgrimages, are closed.
