“We exported a bad VAR”

Gasperini very critical of the referee and VAR after Inter-Atalanta in the Italian Cup. The manager is not satisfied with the action of Dumfries’ first goal.

Gian Piero Gasperini did not like the refereeing of Inter-Atalanta. The Dea coach, after the defeat in the semi-final of the Italian Cup, referred to three slow motion episodes in his opinion decisive for the match. The reference is to the first goal of Inzaghi’s team, scored by Dumfries, which for Gasp was irregular for three reasons.

Because for Gasperini Inter’s first goal against Atalanta in the Italian Cup had to be cancelled

In particular, in the post-match the coach also wanted to underline the work of the VAR who did not intervene to remedy the errors made on the pitch in the 1-0 lead. A situation that shouldn’t have even materialized seen that the corner kick that started the goal wasn’t there: Bisseck and not Hien sent the ball out.

The action of the Dumfries goal and the contact with Scalvini

This is where Gasperini’s outburst began, which he then brought up also the contact between Dumfries and Scalvinijudged by the referee to be too light and the position of de Vrij, as a possible block for Carnesecchi’s vision (he did not evaluate both the linesman and the collaborators in the VAR room in this way). These are his words: “It’s not easy to create against Inter, the game had its turning point on that absurd goala non-existent corner kick with De Vrij in front of the goalkeeper and a very clear foul by Dumfries on Scalvini, pushes him with two hands.”

Gasperini critical of the VAR after the goal in Dumfries

For the Atalanta coach, the work of referee Chiffi’s colleagues at VAR was not positive also because, according to him, there was a disparity with what happened on the occasion of the goal annulled against Ederson due to a millimetric offside by De Ketelaere: “It’s a bad expression of VARwho took seven minutes to rightly find De Ketelaere offside. We exported a bad VAR, which did not see these three situations clearly.”

Former footballer Massimo Mauro also intervened to support Gasperini’s thesis, especially regarding the error in the assignment of the corner kick. In the post-match on Mediaset the commentator took a dig at Antonio Conte who after an Inter-Napoli match asked for greater clarity on the protocol for VAR intervention: “The VAR must intervene: almost a month ago Conte made that speech on the VAR which I agree with. Why not waste a minute and check that the corner is wrong? Avoid giving an irregular goal.”
