The conflict between two air masses could have covered Brittany with a thin white coat. But the latest weather models will dampen the hopes of young and old children. The sky, for the last hours of the Christmas holidays, will not bring magic, but rain, warns Stéven Tual, meteorologist and forecaster for Temps Breton.
“The mass of humid oceanic air that we initially imagined was ahead of the cold air is, in fact, progressing much more slowly than expected. » Result: “The cold air will be catapulted by the mild air” and the rain, the real one, which gets wet, will impose itself instead of the snowflakes that were expected, all weekend long. The watering promises to be copious. Especially in central Brittany, where accumulations of around 50 mm are expected.
Jérôme Dréano, from Météo Bretagne, does not see any more white on the horizon, “unless there are improbable snowflakes, Saturday morning, near Fougères (35)”.
Sun and cold this Friday
Lovers of outdoor walks, Friday will be the day or never to eliminate toxins caused by holiday excesses. January 3 promises to be pleasant, despite a cloudy veil, thicker in the south than in the north of the region, but which will give way to beautiful sunny breaks. However, you will need to dress warmly as the temperatures will be chilly. “They will be close to 0°C in the east of Ille-et-Vilaine at the start of the day,” indicates Jérôme Dréano. “After the morning frosts dissipate, they will rise throughout the region, but will not exceed 4 to 6°C. » The feeling will be colder due to a wind blowing from the north, northeast. Brrr… And the clouds will return in the evening from the south.
Bad Saturday and Sunday
On Saturday, the frosts will not resist the first precipitation, expected at the end of the morning, and bringing mild weather. “The thermometer will make the big difference, going, during the day on Sunday, from 0°C in the morning to 12-14°C in the evening,” announces Jérôme Dréano. The southwest wind will be sustained, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h, during the day and during the night from Sunday to Monday.
And then? With the cold mass remaining nearby, Stéven Tual does not rule out the return of winter temperatures, “within five, six days”, and the installation of dry cold, “from mid-January”. Which would bring out the hats and gloves, but perhaps allow the return of the sun, essential for replenishing our vitamin D reserves.
