What will the disqualification rules be? Italian Super Cup 2025? The tournament will start today in Saudi Arabia and will feature four teams: reigning Italian champions Inter will challenge Italian Cup finalists Atalanta in the first semi-final on 2 January 2025, while Italian Cup winners Juventus will face second-placed Milan in the championship on 3 January 2025, with the final scheduled for 6 January.
In recent weeks so the Serie A League has also made the regulation official, with particular attention dedicated to the issue of disqualifications: here’s what it provides.
Italian Super Cup disqualification regulations, the rules
As an integration and partial derogation of the provisions of article 19 of the CGS, the sanction of disqualification, without prejudice to the fixed-term one referred to in art. 9, paragraph 1, letter f) of the CGS, imposed by the sports justice bodies in relation to championship matches organized by the professional leagues, must not be served in the Super Cup matches, but only in the first championship match following them.
In consideration of the provisions of the previous paragraph, the effects provided for in the art. 9, paragraph 5, of the CGS, regarding the warnings issued, even during the Super Cup matches, will be effective in subsequent championship matches.
Any disqualifications inflicted in relation to the Super Cup matches, which cannot be served, in whole or in part, in the same edition in which they were imposed, must be served, even for the remainder only, in the subsequent championship matches, it being understood that to the same will be added those inflicted in the championship that have not yet been served before the start of the Super Cup.
Italian Super Cup disqualification rules, examples
The following case series is reported, by way of example but not exhaustively, in order to dispel any possible doubts:
- a player/coach sent off on the day before the start of the Super Cup or with a residual sanction, will serve the disqualification or the remainder thereof in the championship match(es) following the conclusion of the Super Cup;
- a player/coach who receives a warning before the start of the Super Cup, who is booked in the semi-final, will serve the suspension in the championship match following the conclusion of the Super Cup;
- a player/manager on a warning before the start of the Super Cup, who is booked in the final, will serve the disqualification in the championship match following the conclusion of the Super Cup;
- a player/manager warned before the start of the Super Cup, who is booked in both the semi-finals and the final, will serve the disqualification in the championship match following the conclusion of the Super Cup and, once the sanction has been served, will start again with the amount of warnings including the two sanctions (e.g. 6th sanction, 11th sanction…);
- a player/coach sent off in the semi-final will serve the disqualification in the final, without prejudice to any further bans which will be served in the championship match(es) following the conclusion of the Super Cup;
- a player/coach sent off in the final will serve the disqualification in the championship match(es) following the conclusion of the Super Cup.
