UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WSYX) — Days after a corrections officer at Ross Correctional Institution was allegedly killed by an inmate, the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee visited the facility.

Members of the CIIC visited on Tuesday, six days after Corrections Officer Andrew Lansing was killed.

The group “was informed of allegations of abuse of inmates by corrections staff through social media, CIIC members’ constituent cases, and questions from interested parties and media,” according to a statement from the CIIC.

“The CIIC identified the specific inmates, went to their cells, asked them to remove their shirt, turn around, and show their hands, wrists and face up close,” the statement continued. “Below are the specific allegations and outcomes.”

  • Allegation 1: Leg was broken. Was “beat up” by officers.
  • Outcome 1: No visible signs of abuse. Walking and moving normally. Claimed no pain in leg.
  • Allegation 2: Excessive force during cell searches by SRT.
  • Outcome 2: No visible signs of abuse. Stated he was roughed up by staff.
  • Allegation 3: Excessive force during cell searches by SRT.
  • Outcome 3: No visible signs of abuse. Stated the cell search was aggressive and he was now fine.
  • Allegation 4: Was strip searched. During the search was punched in the rib by an officer.
  • Outcome 4: No visible signs of abuse. Had nickel sized bruise on left abdomen. Strip searches are allowed by policy.
  • Allegation 5: Aggressive cell search by SRT.
  • Outcome 5: No visible signs of abuse. Stated he was body slammed by officers.

The three-page statement did not indicate how much time had elapsed between the alleged abuse and Tuesday’s CIIC visit.
