A lighter but symbolic measure
A Low Emission Zone (ZFE) to combat automobile pollution in Nantes, the version chosen is lighter, only affecting a small percentage of vehicles in circulation.
Which vehicles are affected?
The Nantes ZFE covers the interior of the ring road, excluding the latter. Only certain old vehicles are prohibited from driving during peak hours (7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays):
Motorized two-wheelers registered before June 1, 2000,
Cars put into service before January 1, 1997,
Light Utilities before October 1, 1997,
Heavy goods vehicles before October 1, 2001.
This only represents less than 1% of the Nantes rolling stock, according to the metropolitan authorities.
Exemptions for certain cases
A list of exemptions is provided for exceptional situations. For example, drivers going to the emergency room will not be penalized. The complete list is available on the Nantes Métropole website.
A Crit’Air sticker for everyone
Whether or not your vehicle is affected by the restrictions, it must display a Crit'Air sticker. Available for €3.77, it can be ordered online on the official website certificat-air.gouv.fr/certificat.
During the first weeks, the metropolis will favor an educational approach to raise user awareness. However, the fines will eventually drop. The amount of a fine for an infraction is €68.
