A vehicle drove into a crowd in downtown New Orleans before opening fire. At least 10 dead and 30 injured have been reported.
At least 10 people were killed and 30 injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd in a tourist area of New Orleans, authorities in the American city announced Wednesday.
“We are responding to a mass casualty accident involving a vehicle that drove into a crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street. There are 30 injured and ten dead“said the city’s emergency authority in a statement.
Emergency services did not specify the time of the incident, but the area was expected to be crowded with people celebrating the New Year in the historic and festive district known as “French Quarter” (French Quarter).
CBS News cites witnesses who say a truck drove into the crowd at “high speed” before its driver jumped out and began firing a gun, prompting a police response.
