New stage in the strengthening of the low emissions zone (ZFE) of Greater Paris: after the very old and very polluting Crit'Air 5 and Crit'Air 4, it is the turn of the vehicles classified Crit'Air 3 (diesel of over 14 years old and gasoline over 19 years old) to be prohibited from circulation, from 1is January. Provided for by the Climate and Resilience law, this obligation only applies to the metropolises of Paris and , the two French urban areas for which pollution levels, in this case nitrogen dioxide emissions linked mainly to road traffic, continue to exceed European limits and very much the recommendations of the World Health Organization. Excesses which are responsible for nearly 5,000 premature deaths each year in Ile-de- and which have earned France repeated convictions and fines before the Council of State.

With this new stage, there are now more than 420,000 private cars (nearly a quarter of the metropolitan automobile fleet) and nearly 60,000 professional vehicles which are supposed to no longer be able to drive in the Greater Paris ZFE, extending over 77 municipalities within a perimeter delimited by the A86 motorway. The ban, however, is entirely theoretical. The Greater Paris Metropolis has in fact introduced a whole series of exemptions and relaxations to avoid the revolt of motorists. First downside, each holder of the Crit'Air 3 sticker will be able to benefit, on simple request, from the 24-hour ZFE Pass, allowing them to travel freely 24 days a year, or 139 full days per year, adding the weekends which do not are not affected by the traffic restrictions. These apply only from Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., unlike the ZFE of the Lyon metropolitan area where the bans are in force seven days a week and twenty-four hours a day.
