Lopes: “Olympique Lyonnais gave me everything”

One day after announcing his departure from OL, Anthony Lopes shared a message. The goalkeeper thanks the supporters and educators.

It’s a page in history, and not just his own, that is being turned. After 24 years at OL, Anthony Lopes is today, and since December 30, a player for FC . At 34, the goalkeeper is leaving to take on a new challenge after six months of champing at the bit, between training and absences from matches. A huge upheaval for someone who had only known the Rhone club until now in his career.

The day after his departure was made official, the native of Givors shared a message on his social networks. In this text, which is not “not a farewell, but a goodbye”as he clarified, the 2016 European champion especially pays tribute to the supporters and educators, “those we often forget“. “eextremely grateful“, he explains that Olympique Lyonnais gave him “given everything“. “A passion that will never fade“, for Lopes, but which will be written under another tunic.

Anthony Lopes' message after his departure to Nantes:

“Yes, it's true, I'm leaving Olympique Lyonnais and I can't do it without saying thank you. Thank you, supporters. In the big victories as in the most difficult moments, you have always been there.
And since we always forget someone without wanting to, I wanted above all and above all to think about and thank those we often forget: the educators. I arrived at Olympique Lyonnais as a child and I am leaving today as an adult. I owe this construction of a man and an athlete to you too. Each of you brought me something that has served me and will continue to serve me throughout my life. I am extremely grateful to all of you. I remember the first tracksuit, the first jersey, the first license. Without you, I would never have been able to realize such a big dream. Because never as a child could I have dreamed of this incredible course in red and blue. The training gave me strength, values, desire, love, humility, and demands. For over 20 years, you all made me grow. Olympique Lyonnais gave me everything. I hope I have been worthy of your encouragement and expectations. Every morning, I was proud to wear this crest. This passion will never die.

I'm leaving to join FC Nantes. I really want to do my job, in new colors, as I learned: with commitment, professionalism, humility and ambition.

It’s not goodbye, it’s goodbye.”
