A 15-year-old boy died on New Year's Eve in Strasbourg after being hit by a car that fled.
The events occurred around 1 a.m., in the Cité de l'Ill, a sensitive district in the north of Strasbourg. A 15-year-old boy was hit by a car whose driver fled. The victim was initially transported to hospital with a life-threatening condition, but he later died, according to a police source collected by AFP.

During the previous nights, “around forty arrests” took place in Strasbourg following damage to vehicles, trash fires but also urban violence.
A city under close surveillance
New Year's Eve was therefore placed under close surveillance. Nearly 700 police officers were employed in Strasbourg and its surrounding area as well as 500 gendarmes in the rest of Bas-Rhin. 1,100 firefighters were also mobilized, including more than 300 in the Eurometropolis, and a national gendarmerie helicopter was available, as well as drones.
