MANSFIELD: Michael P. Scott passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 in OhioHealth Mansfield. He was 72.
He was born on April 1, 1952 in Mansfield, Ohio, the first of six children between Dale H. and Jeanann (Wiseman) Scott. Growing up in the area, Mike was a graduate of Mansfield Sr. High School.
On July 5, 1996 he married the love of his life, Marsha Snyder, and the couple shared 28 wonderful years of marriage together.
Mike was a hard worker who was a classic “Jack of all trades” in all aspects of life, and if he didn’t know something he wasn’t afraid to figure it out on his own. Mike worked in the maintenance department of Richland County until his retirement in the early 2000s, at which time he was presented with a very special commemorative plaque with his famous catch phrase- “I’ll be back in a minute”.
In his spare time, Mike loved to spend his time fishing for catfish, crappie, and musky in local fishing spots, most recently the Galion Reservoir, or up at Lake Erie. He was incredibly creative and had a knack for learning new self-taught skills, such as taxidermy for his prized fish, painting with direction from Bob Ross, drawing, and finding new recipes to try out on various cooking shows. Above all else though, Mike loved his family and would do anything he could to support them. His grandchildren (and the grand-dogs) were the absolute light of his life and he would never pass up an opportunity to tease all the children in his life. Mike’s giant heart and genuine kindness to others will be missed by everyone who had the honor to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife Marsha Scott, children Michele Scott, Amanda (Jeff) McCoy, Matthew Snyder, and Sara (Tyler) Stitzlein, grandchildren Jayden, Dryden, Lennon, Calio, Hazeline, Aleeyah, Keenan (Leah), Julian, and Hayden, one great-grandchild on the way who will be named after Mike, siblings Joan (Bill) Thurber, Larry (Vicki) Scott, Janet (Floyd) Davis, Jim (Kerri) Long, and Rachel Scott, long-time friend Dale Strimple who was a part of his “Dash”, as well as many beloved extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey “Julio” Scott, an infant brother, stepmother Bonnie Scott, and special uncle Joe Ashcraft.
The Scott family will receive guests on Saturday, January 4th, 2025 from 10 am to noon at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Marion Avenue Chapel. A memorial service honoring Mike’s life will begin immediately following.
