Philippe Tabarot, the new Minister of Transport, is the subject of an investigation for illegal taking of interests and embezzlement of public funds, opened in September 2021 by the financial prosecutor's office.
Barely named, he is already in turmoil. Philippe Tabarot is suspected of having embezzled public money in his previous missions. An investigation is underway into the positions he held in a commune in the south of France, run for two decades by his sister, Michelle Tabarot. The municipal opposition criticizes the high remuneration for the missions carried out. As early as 2021, the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life alerted the courts.
According to his 2019 declaration of interests, Philippe Tabarot was director of a structure responsible for the tourist and cultural development of the city, with a net annual income of 82,473 euros. Simultaneously, he was responsible for communications for the city and sat on the regional council, a combination of functions and remuneration which attracted the attention of the national financial prosecutor's office.
