Last weekend, Medellín authorities confirmed the discovery of human remains inside a box in the Aranjuez neighborhoodnortheast of the city. The first reports indicate that the remains could correspond to a woman, although official confirmation of the identity is awaited after Forensic Medicine analyses.
The body was discovered in a property located on Carrera 48B No. 85C, in the sector known as “Barrio Chino” of Commune 4 of Aranjuez. As explained by Colonel Javier Mauricio Castellanos, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police of the Aburrá Valley, the alert was received through a call to the emergency line 123. Upon arriving at the scene, The uniformed officers found the dismembered body inside a containerr, which led to the area being cordoned off to facilitate investigation work.

The remains were transferred to the National Institute of Legal Medicine, where specialists will perform the autopsy to determine both the identity of the victim and the causes of his death. This case is added to the 315 homicides registered in Medellín so far this year, according to data from the Information System for Security and Coexistence. In Commune 4, which covers Aranjuez, 14 violent deaths have been reported, a figure lower than the same period of the previous year, when 29 were recorded.
The Attorney General's Office has taken on the investigation to clarify this crime and find those responsible.. The authorities call on citizens to collaborate by providing any information that may be relevant to the investigation. This case has generated shock in the local community, which demands responses to this act of extreme violence.
