Crash in South Korea: what really happened?

179 people lost their lives in the crash of a Jeju Air plane at Muan airport in southwestern South Korea. How did the accident happen?

An extremely deadly crash and a lot of questions. Shortly before the tragedy, the control tower warned the crew that the aircraft had been struck by birds. But could the accident have happened because of a simple collision with birds? Airplanes are normally designed to withstand this. In France alone, 700 animal collisions are recorded on average each year.

In most cases, they only produce a few impacts on the cabin. “The most delicate thing is the ingestion of birds into the reactor, which can stop them or cause them to explode,” explains an aeronautical consultant. This time, the Boeing landed on its belly, neither the landing gear nor the flaps which allow braking were deployed.

But why isn't the landing gear extended? According to experts, this may correspond to a hydraulic failure of the device. Unable to brake, the plane ended up in a wall. The accident appears to be the result of an accumulation of failures.
