Particularly thanks to tests from Veredamu and Ruiz, Usap won this Sunday evening at Aimé-Giral against La Rochelle. A victory with a score of 21-13 for the Catalans, who finished the year in the best possible way. The Maritimes returned empty-handed from this trip.
The misstep was almost forbidden! USAP, 13th and in a play-off position, welcomed Stade Rochelais (6th) who also had to collect points in order to stay in contact with the leading pack. Whatever the side, the need for points was therefore present for this last meeting of the year. But sport is such that only one of the two teams could rejoice in victory at the end of the day. It remained to be seen who! Well it was the Sang et Or who had this pleasure at the end of a meeting which they mastered from start to finish. A look back at this oh-so-valuable success for the USAP.
The Catalan fury has its effect
Veredamu's try in the 12th minute of play is to be shown in all rugby schools! At the end of a collective movement of 50 meters, the Usapistes made the Aimé-Giral stadium roar with pleasure. An oiled movement which set the tone for a meeting in which the scenario was always favorable to the Perpignanais (5/3, 12th). Subsequently, Duguivalu could, even should, have doubled the lead in the 21st but Dupichot's last pass for his partner did not allow the conclusion of another good collective movement. The frustration of this error did not last long because the territorial domination of the Catalans resulted in a new try, this one much more academic, from Ruiz in the 29th minute of play (18/6).
La Rochelle fails to revive
Despite a few successful kicks by Antoine Hastoy, the Maritimes never managed to take the reins of this match. Already very undisciplined in the first half, they were unable to change their face despite a try from Botia in the 52nd minute of play. We thought for a few moments that the match would be restarted here but that was not the case. The Perpignans had too much control over their subject and kept the Maritimes at the dock. The score will not change even if Veredamu (64th) then Fa'aso'o (79th) were very close to scoring a try for the Sang et Or. 21/13, such was the score at the end of the match in which the Rochelais will never have been able to influence.
