Alexis Monney takes third place on the Super-G podium following Norwegian Fredrik Möller’s surprise victory.
The podium
- 1. Fredrik Möller (NOR) 1:29.22
- 2. Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT) +0.20
- 3. Alexis Monney (SUI) +0.24
Bormio and Alexis Monney – that fits. After his downhill victory on Saturday, the Freiburger doubled up on Sunday in the Super-G and finished third on the podium. Monney showed an improvement run with start number 27 and got better and better after a slow start. Above all, the outstanding 2nd sector pushed him far forward and ensured only his second podium finish of the season.
However, it wasn’t quite enough to win. Fredrik Möller, another young driver, celebrated his first victory in the World Cup. The Norwegian set a target time early on on the “Stelvio” that could no longer be beaten. After two previous 4th places as the best result at the highest level, he is now celebrating from the top for the first time. Behind Möller, Vincent Kriechmayr took second place and thus secured only the second Austrian speed podium of the season.
The other Swiss in the points
- 4. Stefan Rogentin +0.42
- 5. Marco Odermatt +0.45
- 6. Franjo von Allmen +0.64
- 15. Justin Murisier +1,38
- 25. Marco Kohler +2,34
Stefan Rogentin’s first podium finish of the season was within reach. But once again Monney thwarted a teammate’s plan. Rogentin was pushed off the podium, but 4th place is his best Bormio result of his career.
Marco Odermatt has to leave Bormio without a podium finish. As with the downhill run on Saturday, the man from Nidwalden finished in 5th place. Franjo von Allmen ranked directly behind the 27-year-old, further demonstrating his strong form. After strong split times, Justin Murisier struggled in the lower section of the route and missed out on a top 10 place.
The fall
For Gino Caviezel, who started the race with start number 1, the Super-G was quickly over after a serious fall. It is not yet clear what injuries the Graubünden native sustained. The Frenchman Alexis Pinturault didn’t even start because he didn’t feel ready to start after teammate Cyprien Sarrazin’s crash on Friday.
This is how it continues
In the new year, the technicians will be required again. A slalom is scheduled for January 8th in Madonna di Campiglio. We continue with the Bernese Oberland Ski Weeks in Adelboden (slalom and giant slalom on January 11th/12th) and Wengen (super-G, downhill, slalom from January 17th to 19th).
