Beerschot coach Kuyt sets high standards for winter mercato: “I hope for that” – Football News

Beerschot remains in dire straits after another defeat against OH Leuven. The team of coach Dirk Kuyt has only collected 1 point out of 30 in away matches and is still at the bottom of the standings. The trainer hopes for a turning point during the winter break, partly due to reinforcement in January.

During the press conference after the match, Kuyt indicated that the core of his team is not wide enough. “I look first and foremost at the current team, but Benjamin (Ehresmann, the sporting director, ed.) and I talk every day about how things can be even better,” said Kuyt. “Ideally, reinforcements will be added to each line in January. We are dealing with a lack of depth and many injuries. That causes problems, so I hope for reinforcements quickly.”

Beerschot is the only European club still under the wings of United World, now that Sheffield United has been officially sold. This may offer opportunities for additional financial resources. “I have already discussed it with the people at United World,” Kuyt said. “Hopefully that will bring a positive development, but it is not the case that all that money will suddenly go to Beerschot.”

Despite the situation around Sheffield, Kuyt emphasized that Beerschot has had a concrete plan for the future for some time. “We have a plan in place that we want to implement separately from Sheffield. Now we want to make that happen,” he said determinedly.

The winter transfer period will be crucial for Beerschot, which must make rapid progress to avoid relegation. Kuyt hopes to strengthen his team with targeted purchases and achieve a better second half of the season.

The club must act quickly to remain competitive in the fight against relegation. Kuyt remains optimistic: “We want to fight to get Beerschot back on track. We are working hard on that now.”
