Emergency services have been battling a violent fire in the heart of since mid-morning on Tuesday, here are images of the roof completely gutted by the flames.

A fire ravaged the top floor of a Paris building in the 8th arrondissement, near the Saint-Lazare station, at midday on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. According to information from BFMTV, a “service room” would be engulfed in flames in a hotel.

The establishment and the entire building were evacuated. However, one person was injured. It appears to be a worker, who was treated by emergency services and then transported to hospital.

Videos shared on social media show that the fire attacked the roof of the building, which is now completely gutted:

A construction accident involved?

Rue de la Pépinière is blocked to allow emergency services to intervene. No less than 150 firefighters and 20 engines are involved, with the support of the municipal and national police. The origin of the fire is still uncertain, an investigation will have to lift the veil on the causes of the disaster. According to the first elements communicated to Franceinfo, a construction site accident would be the preferred cause, while two workers were working on the top floor of the building, where the fire started.
