That's more than double the usual price. This Tuesday, December 24, 2024, the Grand Christmas Lotto draw will take place. A lottery classic for Française des Jeux.
The prize is a jackpot of 20 million euros to be won and 100 winners of 20,000 euros, thanks to a random draw of the codes written on the Loto tickets.
But to try your luck, you'll have to pay a little more money than usual: 5 euros versus 2.20 euros for a classic Lotto. There is a logical explanation.
A special draw
In fact, this Tuesday's draw allows the winner of the jackpot to win 20 million euros. Except that there is a probability that no one will find the combination of the five correct numbers and the lucky number.
If usually, the sum is put into play, this will not be the case during the Grand Christmas Lotto.
If no one finds the winning combination (five numbers and the lucky number), the jackpot will be shared among all the winners in the lower ranks.
And it is precisely for this reason that a grid for this Grand Christmas Lotto is more expensive than usual.
More winners and bigger winnings
For a previous article, the FDJ explained to actu.fr that it was about “the mechanics of the games for the big Loto draws, like that of the Olympics”.
Concretely, the different winnings in the ranks (lower than the jackpot) are greater than usual. The classic Lotto jackpot is two million euros, while here, it's 20 million. And this money will inevitably be won, via the jackpot or not.
Idem, the Grand Christmas Loto also guarantees 100 winners of 20,000 euros thanks to a dedicated draw. In a classic Loto, there are 10 winners at 20,000 euros.
Attention
If you want to participate, two solutions:
- Online, in the Loto tab, you will need to select Grand Loto de Noël and then check its numbers.
- Or at an FDJ point of sale by requesting a special grid for Christmas (keep the receipt carefully!).
But be careful, playing should remain fun. You should not bet beyond reason.
