Vanessa Mai is celebrating a premiere this Christmas: the singer is spending the holidays in the mountains for the first time. “I'm so looking forward to a 'Wham Christmas' like in 'Last Christmas',” enthuses Mai in the interview.
For many people, doing something good before Christmas is simply part of the process. Vanessa Mai (32) also shows special commitment and supports local food banks in Germany together with Coca-Cola and the popular Christmas truck.
“I got to know a lot of Santas and discovered my own Santa in myself,” says the singer happily at a meet & greet in Regensburg, where she herself lends a hand. The 32-year-old is an absolute Christmas fan and recently released her Christmas single “Snowman”. This year she is spending the holidays in the mountains with her husband Andreas Ferber for the first time, with the evergreen “Last Christmas” on an endless loop.
Many people want to do something good during the Christmas season. You are currently supporting the campaign “The world needs more Santas!”, what exactly is your involvement here?
Vanessa Mai: At this very special stop for the Coca-Cola Christmas truck here at the Tafel in Regensburg, I would not only like to highlight the valuable work of the Tafel, but also take the opportunity to exchange ideas with the committed employees and with them together with Coca -Cola to show our gratitude. True to the campaign's motto, I met a lot of Santas and discovered my own inner Santa!
When many people think of “Santa Claus,” they automatically picture the characteristic Santa Claus. Who brings the presents to your house?
May: We actually rarely give each other presents. However, when something catches my eye and makes me think of a specific person, I surprise them with it. I don't like “the main thing is to give something.” It should come from the heart. The small gestures are often much more meaningful.
How will you spend the holidays this year?
May: My husband, our dog and I will be going to the mountains for the holidays for the first time. I'm so looking forward to a “Wham Christmas” like in “Last Christmas.” We will definitely listen to the song up and down. So it will definitely be a “white Christmas” with lots of snow.
Is there a Christmas tradition that is particularly close to your heart?
May: Every year we go to our favorite Christmas market at home. We decorate the whole house and make the door and Advent wreaths ourselves. That's just part of our work.
What definitely has to be on your Christmas menu?
May: I love hearty food at Christmas. Very classic – dumplings and red cabbage are a must!
The final spurt for 2024 also begins with the Christmas season. What resolutions do you have for the coming year?
Mai: I just want to continue as before. For me it is very important to live in the here and now and to be grateful for what we have. And I would like us all to support each other more and treat each other positively. We can do so much good together!
