The arrival of influencers IbraTV and Hachemi caused disturbances at the Atomium this Monday evening. The police had to use water cannons to calm the massive crowd.
The Brussels police had to use water cannons on Monday evening at the Atomium in order to disperse and calm a crowd of fans who came to meet two influencers, the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone said on Tuesday. The latter had announced a competition, which turned out to be particularly tumultuous.
The two French influencers, IbraTV and Hachemi, are particularly popular on Youtube, Instagram and Snapchat. They announced Monday evening that they would give gifts to the Atomium. Following this announcement, around a thousand people showed up around 6:30 p.m.
“While waiting for the two influencers, some participants set off fireworks, both horizontally and vertically“, declared the spokesperson for the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone, Ilse Van de keere. “Fireworks were even set off in the direction of our police officers.”
The influencers themselves then reportedly set off fireworks. When they arrived by bus around 7 p.m., the bus was immediately surrounded by crowds. The atmosphere became tense, with demands for the distribution of gifts and threats of vandalism, according to police.
The police attempted to let the bus leave safely, but the crowd then followed the vehicle towards Houba-de Strooper Avenue. In order to control the situation, the police decided to deploy water cannons. “Thanks to the cordial action of the security forces, calm returned around 8 p.m.“, the spokesperson continues. “There were no injuries or damage reported.”
