Special treatment for Santa Claus on December 24. Several French town halls have published humorous decrees authorizing the bearded and blushing man to fly over their towns during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in order to peacefully leave their gifts at the foot of the trees while the children are still asleep.
In Flée, in Sarthe, the text which covers all the stages of the administrative drafting concerns “the authorization to fly over Flée by Santa Claus, his elves and hungry reindeer”, according to Maine Libre.
“Given the general code of local authorities (and a little magic), given the civil aviation code of the North Pole (in force for supersonic sleds); considering that a celebration without Santa Claus is like a log without chocolate”, it is specified there with the usual administrative rigidity.
“Children are asked to respect the parental ultimatum to go to bed early in order to avoid disrupting the tight schedule of Santa Claus who has a world tour to ensure”, it is specified according to article 3. No appeal can be deposited.
Prohibition of access to Father Fouettard
A similar initiative was taken near Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes, in Vaucluse. Beyond the flight and landing in the town, the decree also authorizes the eight reindeer to move around freely, in the same way as the elves. Father Fouettard and the Grinch, on the other hand, are prohibited from entering the municipal territory, report our colleagues from France Bleu.
Children are also encouraged to leave a glass of milk for Santa Claus, or to give him a drawing.
The fashion for false orders has also been exported to the Gard, to Marguerittes, where Santa Claus will be authorized during the night to fly over the town at low altitude, as well as to park on the roofs of houses, reports France Bleu. To allow Santa to regain his strength, residents are invited to leave him a small snack by the tree.
The town hall of Saint-Genis-Laval, in the Rhône, was a little more fanciful. According to BFMTV, Santa Claus will be authorized to “perform loops in the sky and use the city's charging stations to power his sleigh”, which is therefore assumed to be electric. Revolutionary!
But in this town, Santa Claus will not have all the rights. Although he is allowed to park on rooftops and streets, the legendary character “will have to repair any tiles he damages when landing.” “He may also be accompanied by elves who will help him in this task,” however, specifies article 2 of the decree.
In return, children are invited to bring cookies or a glass of milk for the elves, a drawing for Santa and… organic carrots for the reindeer! “Be careful not to leave garlands lying around in which he could get his feet caught,” warns the municipality.
