Why did you agree to remain a delegated minister in the Bayrou government?
When the situation is difficult, there are three possible attitudes. Watch from the shore and leave the boat struggling. Or say we won't make it. And then there is the one that involves getting on board to do your part. Today, the situation in the country is complex. We have a collective responsibility to prepare for the future and ensure that the country recovers. For my part, I do my duty with great humility and simplicity because I am very attached to this country.
Will this government hold on, when threats of censorship are already looming?
It is up to everyone to take their responsibilities. Opening proposals were made to the parties. Some have made the meaningful choice to stay away from the action. Others even refused to see the Prime Minister, with the aim of bringing down governments one after another. As for me, the people I hear every day tell us to stop the chicayas and do our job. In local authorities, we have executives made up of different people, sometimes from opposing political families. But we work together to resolve problems.
This new team is notably marked by the return of three former ministers from the left: Borne, Valls and Rebsamen. Is this a way of convincing the PS not to vote for censorship?
I do not yet have to comment on the decisions of the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic. Those who remain or have entered the government consider that the state of the country does not allow for moods. When the situation is this difficult, we must be able to work with all democrats of good will. The Prime Minister has made proposals. Now we will see how everyone acts consciously. At some point, our fellow citizens will hold us accountable. It's time to play collectively.
Bringing together rurality with commerce and crafts was an innovation of the previous government which seemed relevant to me, given the challenge of revitalizing the countryside. Today, these missions join their usual ministry and that is good. I have no qualms. I am honored by the offer made to me.
