These last hours have been marked by exceptional mildness, with maximums sometimes being close to 8 to 10 degrees above seasonal norms. After this truly spring atmosphere, a radical change in weather is expected for this Thursday, with the passage of an active cold front over the country.
Rain will therefore pass through most regions over the next few hours. We will especially note the spectacular drop in temperatures behind this cold front, accompanied by the arrival of a maritime polar air mass.

Sometimes heavy rain
The active disturbance is already present this morning, extending from the southwest to the northeast regions.
The disturbance therefore brings rain between New Aquitaine and the Grand Est region. Snow is also arriving this morning in the Alps, but at a fairly high altitude, above 2000 meters.
This cold front is also accompanied by strong gusts of wind, with peaks reaching 90 to 100 km/h along the Channel. Inland, gusts can approach 60 to 70 km/h.
Heavy rain and snow
This afternoon, the disturbance will progress further inland, bringing sometimes locally sustained rain between the Pyrenees and the eastern regions. The rain-snow line will begin to lower with the arrival of the colder air mass. It will snow from 900 meters in the Massif Central, 1300 meters in the Pyrenees and 1600 meters in the Alps. This rain-snow limit will continue to drop overnight as temperatures drop.
After the passage of the front, a trailing sky will bring showers to the northwest regions, notably between Brittany, Loire" rel="tag">Pays de la Loire, Aquitaine, the Centre-Val de Loire region, Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France and Champagne.
The wind will also strengthen considerably in the evening around the Mediterranean, before blowing into a storm next night and tomorrow, with gusts exceeding 100 to 110 km/h.
Temperatures are dropping!
After the passage of the cold front, temperatures will drop significantly, under the effect of the arrival of a maritime polar air mass. The values will sometimes lose almost 5 to 8 degrees in just 24 hours!
In detail, the forecast temperatures will be this afternoon from 5°C in Clermont-Ferrand, 6°C in Nancy, 7°C in Lille, 8°C in Paris and Lyon, 9°C in Nantes, 10°C in Brest, 11°C in Bordeaux and Montélimar, 12°C in Grenoble, 13°C in Bastia, 14°C in Marseille and Biarritz, 15°C in Nice and 17°C in Perpignan.
If temperatures do not drop further tomorrow afternoon, they should still lose several degrees tomorrow morning due to overnight clearings. Some frosts could even occur in the north of the country. Also note small snowfalls expected tomorrow across all low altitude massifs!
