Invited to Matignon on Thursday, the Ecologists confirmed that they would attend the meeting of political forces called by the Prime Minister, François Bayrou, while issuing a warning.
“The identical continuation of a policy already disavowed by voters at the polls, but also by deputies through censorship, can only lead to the same effects. It is the responsibility of the presidential camp to avoid it”asserts Marine Tondelier’s party in a press release. “This is the message that we will solemnly remind the Prime Minister and other participants of the meeting this afternoon”add the Environmentalists.
Nearly a week after his appointment, at the end of a first series of consultations, François Bayrou invited the political forces and the presidents of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, and of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, to 2 p.m. in Matignon, but not La France insoumise nor the National Rally, before finalizing his government with Emmanuel Macron.
Marine Tondelier’s party recalls that Emmanuel Macron’s choice to appoint François Bayrou “clearly does not constitute political alternation”. “In this context, the Ecologists can only remain in opposition in Parliament”.
Environmentalists also say they expect from this meeting “may it be an opportunity to take stock of the tragedy that the residents of Mayotte are going through”devastated last Saturday by Cyclone Chido “and on the measures to be taken as quickly as possible to help the populations and rebuild the island”.
Saying “like most French people, extremely worried about the political, social, environmental and budgetary situation in the country”Environmentalists repeat having “solutions to put on the table”.
“In this period of very worrying instability that our country is going through, we hope that everything will be done to avoid the error which would consist of further prolonging this stubbornness of the President and his supporters”they add.
