Marquinhos, captain of PSG, expressed his incomprehension at the referee’s decision not to send off Wilfried Singo after his violent involuntary sole in the face of Gianluigi Donnarumma on Wednesday

The voice remained measured but the anger and incomprehension were very present among Marquinhos, Wednesday after Monaco-PSG (2-4). The Parisian captain deplored the decision of referee M.Letexier not to send off Wilfried Singo – not even warned – for his violent attack in the face of his goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“The image is scary”

“I don’t know if the referee was in the wrong place, but VAR had to be called, we have to protect the players,” regretted the Brazilian in the mixed zone. “In a situation like this, not putting red is strong,” insisted the captain.

In the 17th minute of the match against ASM, Wilfried Singo did not control his gesture and pressed his crampons on the Parisian goalkeeper’s cheek. His cheek was completely cut open and staples had to be placed by the doctor in the field.

A photo of the doorman shows a large scar on his face. He left the Louis II stadium with a bandage on his cheek. “The image is scary,” described Marquinhos, adding that referee François Letexier told him that the gesture “was in the continuity of the action” justifying the fact that there was no foul.

Victim of “facial trauma with multiple wounds”, Gianluigi Donnarumma returned to during the night from Wednesday to Thursday with the team, the club explained in a press release. The Italian will undergo “medical examinations on Thursday and will have to remain inactive for several days”, detailed PSG.
