Since its release on December 13, “1992” has risen to the top trends on Netflix. Behind the plot of the series lies a true story.
The “1992” series rises to the top of the trends when it arrives on the platform on December 13. This thriller directed by Álex de la Iglesia is not entirely a work of fiction and is based on real events.
In six episodes, the plot captivates viewers with breathtaking suspense. An Amparo widow wishes to lift the veil on the mystery surrounding the death of her husband. Richi, a former police officer converted into a security agent, comes to lend him a hand in this investigation. Their investigations are quickly disturbed by a series of murders which seems strangely linked to the Universal Exhibition which took place thirty years previously.

To carry this successful series, a tandem of actors composed of Marian Álvarez who plays Amparo and Fernando Valdivielso who lends his features to Richi. Carlos Santos, Alex Gadea and Paz Vega join this prestigious cast.
Events inspired by real events?
Even though no murder wave similar to that of the series occurred, the writers used a major event to compose the plot. In order to perfect their story, they evoke the universal exhibition taking place in Seville in 1992. A fundamental episode in Spanish history having attracted more than 42 million visitors. This exhibition did not go off without a hitch. Indeed, a fire ravaged the Discoveries pavilion and that of Oceania. Flames which are also represented in the Netflix show.
