Sporting qualified this Wednesday for the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup in Football, by winning against Santa Clara 2-1, after extra time, in the game that opened the round of 16 of the competition.

After a goalless draw at the end of the first half, the ‘lions’, who were recently beaten by the Azorean team in Alvalade 1-0 in the championship, only took the lead in the 74th minute, through Danish Conrad Harder, but still allowed for Santa Clara to equalize, at 90+8, through Pedro Ferreira, taking the game into extra time.
In extra time, and at a time when penalties were beginning to be a possibility, an error by the Azorean defense allowed Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres to isolate himself and put the ‘lions’ back in front, in the 113th minute.
