While Pachuca still had to complete a few preliminary rounds, Real Madrid immediately reached the final battle of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, the successor to the old World Cup for Clubs.
The Madrilenians could immediately thank Thibaut Courtois in the initial phase. The Belgian goalie was quick to keep Pachuca from scoring the opening goal. On the other side, the first opportunity was achieved. Via Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé could no longer miss on a pass from Vinicius Junior – named Player of the Year on Tuesday – 1-0 after 37 minutes of football in the Lusail Stadium in Doha.
After the break, Mbappé took on the role of announcer and Rodrygo doubled the score for De Koninklijke in a beautiful way. Courtois then distinguished himself a number of times, but the Mexicans were unable to score. Vinicius Junior recorded the 3-0 final score from the spot.
