A magnitude 4 earthquake was detected Monday, December 16 evening off the coast of the Côte d’Azur, in the Mediterranean Sea, about forty kilometers southeast of , indicates the French Central Seismological Bureau. The earthquake occurred at 10:22 p.m. (9:22 p.m. universal time).

According to forecasts from the site sismoazur, the earthquake could be felt over a large part of the coastline, from to Monaco and the Italian border, via Nice.
