The Norwegian series, directed by Martin Sundland, Lars Gudmestad and Harald Rosenløw-Eeg, is inspired by a tragedy experienced on September 19, 2021 in the Canary Islands. The Spanish archipelago was victim of the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano. A disaster nicknamed by posterity “Tajogaite” which caused no deaths but a lot of damage. In fact, more than 7,000 people had to be evacuated and many homes were destroyed. Internet users criticize that “La Palma” is only interested in the consequences of the tragedy on tourists and not on the locals for whom it was a real upheaval.
A beneficial series
However, the series was in the works well before the natural disaster. The latter was forced to see her filming postponed. “La Palma” was even profitable for the island since it made it possible to hire hundreds of local extras and technicians from among the locals. Ironically, it could even encourage tourism.
