Stanley issued a recall on 2.6 million of its popular steel cups, citing concerns about loose tops that have led to dozens of burn injuries, officials said Thursday.

The action revolves around “all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the United States” from June 2016 through this month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.

The cups were often sold through Amazon and at Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Target, it said.

The recall covers 12- and 16-ounce Switchback models and 12-, 16- and 20-ounce Trigger Action cups, which were all made in China. The cups in question retailed for $20 to $50.

“At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and are focused on creating quality products that are built for life,” said the company, which is based in Seattle.

The company has received 91 reports, 16 in the U.S., of the targeted mugs’ “lids detaching during use, resulting in 38 burn injuries worldwide, including two burn injuries in the U.S., with 11 consumers worldwide requiring medical attention,” the safety commission said.

Stanley urged customers to reach out to the company and arrange for replacement tops to be sent to them.

Stanley cups have become wildly popular, go-to hydration tools for millions of people seeking to have water or other beverages close at hand at all times.

The century-old company has taken off in recent years, producing its tumblers in a never-ending variety of colors and designs, appealing to more female and younger consumers.

Social media, TikTok in particular, has also played a key role in the company’s rapid growth.

A woman was arrested this year in Northern California and accused of stealing 65 Stanley stainless steel drinking cups worth almost $2,500 from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Roseville, officials said.
