Bouchra Karboubi won the trophy for best female referee of the year, this Monday, December 16, during the CAF Awards 2024 ceremony.

In 2020, Bouchra Karboubi made history by becoming the first Arab woman to referee a men’s match. Additionally, she became the first African woman to qualify as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR). She then had the honor of officiating as a video assistant referee during the men’s Africa Cup of Nations final in 2021.

In her speech, Karboubi said she aspires for her journey to serve as an inspiration to other young women, particularly in the Arab world, to pursue their ambitions in all fields.
